Can Kingsdown give me suggested retail cost on any sleep system?
We are unable to give suggested retails. We are the manufacturer and do not have the suggested retails available to us. An approved Kingsdown dealer sets the retail prices.
Can I sleep on the reverse side of a one-sided bed?
Yes, you can but we do not recommend it. This surface was not designed for sleeping. Sleeping on this side of the mattress should not cause structural damage but you may experience a greater degree of body impressions.
How much body impression should I expect in my bed?
With Kingsdown high-end luxury bedding, body impressions up to 2” are considered normal and desirable. Just like shoes that become more comfortable with age as they conform to your unique shape, our systems are designed to conform to your body instead of your body trying to conform to a sleep surface.
To quote the Better Sleep Council on body impressions: “Many of today’s top-quality mattresses use extra-plush foams and fibers to create comfort layers designed to cradle your body and relieve pressure. In the first few weeks you sleep on a new mattress with extra comfort layers, you will likely notice some body impressions on the surface. These impressions are normal. They indicate that the comfort layers are conforming to your body as they are supposed to do, and shouldn’t be considered a sign that something is wrong with your new mattress.”
Kingsdown recommends rotating your mattress to eliminate the degree of body impressions.
I have had my bed a few months and I already have body impressions. Will the body impressions get worse over time?
The vast majority of settling of the components in your sleep system is going to happen within the first weeks of ownership. There should not be any more other than what you have unless your support system deteriorates. You should expect some degree of body signature, but deeper impressions will not occur. If they do, please contact the dealer where you originally purchased your sleep system.
My bed has an odor, where does this come from?
The foam that is used in the manufacturing process can experience some off-gassing but this should dissipate within a week. This only occurs when the mattress comes straight through production and is sent directly to the consumer. Kingsdown does not warehouse inventory, our beds are produced as they are ordered from our retail accounts. We recommend airing the mattress out for a few days. If the odor persists, please contact the retailer where you originally purchased your sleep system.
How often should mattresses be replaced? How long do they last?
Mattresses wear out on different timetables. This is due to numerous factors such as how the mattress was used (guest room, master bedroom, doubled as a trampoline for the kids, etc.), whether it was cared for properly and the quality of the mattress itself. Other important considerations are how personal comfort levels or a person's lifestyle and body may have changed over the years.
We encourage you to think about these things and ask yourself the following questions as you move through the decades of your life – every 8 to 10 years:
- Are you sleeping better or worse than you did a year ago?
- Are you waking up feeling stiff and sore?
- Does your mattress have visible signs of wear and tear?
- Would a new mattress improve your sleep?
What is the best mattress that you manufacture?
The answer to that question is a matter of individual taste. What's best for one person may not be the best for you. When it comes to mattresses, there is not a “one-size-fits-all”. We are all built differently and have different comfort preferences, so why would the same mattress be "best" for all of us?
To determine the mattress that's best for you, we recommend using the process of elimination to weed out the ones you don't like. Go to a retailer and use the "rest test" to narrow down your choices. As you lie down on the mattresses, pay attention to three of the mattress's most important features: comfort, support and space. The mattress that best fulfills the combination of these needs is the "best" mattress for you.
Do I need to buy a new box spring when I buy a new mattress?
We highly recommend that a new box spring is purchased with your new mattress. Kingsdown’s mattresses and box springs are made to work together as a cohesive unit. When a new mattress is placed on an old box spring, the old box spring does not allow the mattress to perform to its design capabilities for pressure relief and postural alignment.
What type of warranty do you have on your product?
The specific model that you purchase determines your sleep system’s warranty. For information on your warranty, please contact Consumer Relations at 1-800-354-5464 Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm EST.
How often should I rotate my mattress?
Kingsdown recommends that you rotate your mattress for maximum comfort and longevity with your new sleep system. By rotating your mattress, the cushioning and insulation materials will be evenly and properly distributed.
What do I do if something happens to my bed?
Please contact the retailer where you originally made your purchase. If the retailer is no longer in business or no longer sells Kingsdown, please contact our Consumer Relations department at 1-800-354-5464 Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm EST.
Will my sheet fit? Where do I find sheets?
It’s important to remember your Kingsdown sleep system will require sheets that fit loosely. Tight fitting sheets can create a “drum” surface on your mattress. If your sheets are too tight, this can cause a “roll to the middle” effect. If you’re in the market for new bed linens, we recommend Dream World Design. They manufacture bed linens to fit all Kingsdown sleep systems. Their telephone number is 1-800-955-1322. You can also visit their website at www.dreamworlddesign.com.
It looks a lot taller/higher than the bed I have now. Will it fit my bed?
It’s always a good idea to measure where your new mattress will strike your headboard. However, all good quality mattresses are thicker and plusher today to allow for pressure relief and a better night’s sleep.
Medical studies have shown that pressure is the biggest robber of sleep at night and if your mattress is to firm, you will awaken with aches and pain from tossing and turning all night. Have you ever noticed that your arm was numb or that you hip was still asleep even though you had awakened? That’s indication your mattress was to firm and not conforming to you properly. Kingsdown mattresses are specially manufactured to relieve pressure through plush layers of support.
What can I do if the mattress is too high for my bed?
The last thing you want to give up is the comfort of your Kingsdown mattress. After all, what you are buying is the ability to feel great every morning, have more energy than the day before, and simply enjoy life. A thin, hard, boardy mattress will not allow this. There are several possible solutions to making your new Kingsdown mattress work:
- Use a low profile bed frame that is designed to lower your sleep system approximately 4”.
- Consider using an extra-low profile box spring.
- Talk with your sleep professional in the store and he or she may have other solutions they can suggest.
How do I keep my Kingsdown mattress clean?
Kingsdown recommends using a mattress pad on your sleep system. This will help to protect your sleep system from accidents that result in stains. Stains can cause padding deterioration and will void your product warranty.
Do your beds generate heat? What can I do to control the heat?
We have had some calls regarding heat. Different body chemistries react differently. Our sleep systems can generate some heat but this is due to the fact that our systems conform to your body and you tend to sleep longer in one position without adjustment, which is what you want. We suggest that you purchase a 100% cotton mattress pad or a thermally sensitive pad that will help wick away moisture. Using lighter weight bed linens is helpful as well.
How do I know I will like my new custom-made bed?
It’s like buying a pair of custom fit jeans, or a custom-made golf club: it was made especially for you according to your physical measurements, and it will feel great!
However, just like a custom pair of Italian handmade leather shoes or custom-made cowboy boots, you may have to sleep on it a few nights before it totally conforms to you. It will feel different than traditional bedding but give it a few nights to start doing its job. You will notice the difference in how you feel all day long.
What happens if I get the bed home and do not like it?
We invested 20 years of scientific research into developing the BodyDiagnosticsTM computerized system to prevent this from happening to you. It takes 18 statistical measurements of your body and uses 17,000 mathematical formulas to scientifically recommend the best sleep system for you and for your sleep partner. Before you leave the store, you’ll know exactly what your personal sleep surface feels like, and you will not have to worry whether it will feel the same when you get it home.
The first thing you should consider after buying a new bed is purchasing new sleeping pillows. This is the most important accessory to your new sleep system, and the smaller the better! A queen or king size pillow, though it may look nice when the bed is made up, is too large of a pillow for most people to sleep with.
Kingsdown sleep systems are plush, and a big fluffy pillow, in conjunction with your conforming sleep surface, can possibly cause improper postural alignment. We recommend a pillow that supports your neck and head in a natural way. The more conforming the sleep surface, the less pillow you need. Very little pillow on your back and side, and no pillow on your stomach are the general guidelines. Too much pillow can cause lower back pain.
Secondly, give yourself two to three weeks to allow the bed to start conforming to your body, and to allow your body to adjust to getting the proper postural alignment. You may have been sleeping out-of-alignment for the past few years and did not realize your bed was not doing its proper job. It may take a few days before you appreciate the proper support your mattress is providing.
It feels softer than what I have been sleeping on…
Yes, and isn’t it wonderful? With new technology combined with new foams and fibers,
you no longer have to suffer on a hard, uncomfortable mattress.
If I do not like the new bed, can you remake it?
No. That is why Kingsdown developed the BodyDiagnostics™ program: to make sure you get the right sleep surface for you and your sleep partner before you leave the store. It is the only scientific way to match your body and your personal needs to the correct sleeping surface.
How can I be assured that I’m getting the bed that is profiled?
Both the label that is sewn on your sleep system and the law tag that is attached will tell you what your bed is. Keep the personalized printed brochure you receive from the sleep consultant at the time you are profiled; it will show your pressure profile, and will list the correct sleep system for you.
